Olympic/Paralympic

開催が決定したのは、２０１３年９月７日。競技場のデザインのやり直し、当初予算の大幅な上方修正などの混乱はあったものの、２０１９年のラグビーW杯が大いに盛り上がるなど、２０２０年のオリンピックは世界に東京の素晴らしさをアピールできる場になると思っていました。

The decision to host the 2020 Olympic was made on September 7, 2013. Although there were some confusions, such as the redesign of the stadium and a large upward revision of the original budget, I thought that the 2020 Olympics would be an event to show off Tokyo’s excellence to the world, as the Rugby World Cup in 2019 held in Japan.

ところが、コロナ禍により全てが変わってしまった。オリンピックの開催是非については色々な意見があり、反対を主張する理由も十分わかる。政府や組織委員会等の国民に対する説明は充分だったとは思わない。一方、このために準備してきた選手のことを考えると、簡単に中止とするわけにいかないとも思っていた。

However, the Covit19 Pandemic has changed all. There are many opinions on the pros and cons of holding the Olympics, and I can fully understand why people are against it. I don’t think that the government and the organizing committee have given enough explanation to the people. On the other hand, when I think about the athletes who have prepared for this event, I thought it would not be easy to cancel it.

いざ、試合が始まると、アスリートの真摯な姿勢に感動しっぱなし。大会運営を巡る混乱や安全な開催に関する議論とは全く別物なのは理解しているつもりだが、アスリートのために開催できたことは素直に喜びたい気持ちになる。オリンピック/パラリンピックの素晴らしいところは普段あまり注目しないようなアーチェリーやスケボー、柔道、重量上げなどにも注目が集まるところだと思っている。ソフトボールがアメリカを破って金メダルを取ったことは日本人にとっては本当に嬉しいこと。ソフトボールはパリ大会では種目から外れてしまうが、早期に復活してもらいたいと心から思います。

Once the games started, I was completely impressed by the athletes’ performance. I understand that we have to discuss and review the confusion over the management of the games and the debate over the safe hosting of the games, but I am honestly happy that the games were held for the athletes. I think one of the great things about the Olympics/Paralympics is that it brings attention to things that we don’t usually pay much attention to, like archery, skateboarding, judo, and weightlifting. I am very happy for the Japanese people that the softball team won the gold medal, beating the USA. Softball will not be an sport event in the Paris Games, but I sincerely hope that it will be revived as soon as possible.

今回の東京オリンピック・パラリンピックでは、大会が当初の理念と大きくズレてしまっていることが浮き彫りになりました。今後の大会運営では見直されるべきだと思います。今はただ、全ての出場選手の奮闘を心からお祈りします。

This year’s Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics brought to light the fact that the Games have deviated greatly from their original philosophy. I believe that this should be reviewed in the future management of the Games. For now, I just want to wish all the athletes the best of luck in their efforts.

旅の天気/Weather during Travel

色々な都市に行きたい僕は、１週間で「プラハ、ブタペスト、ウィーン」といった旅程を組んでしまいます。本当は、一つの都市に長く滞在し、「行った」「写真撮った」ということにとどまらない旅行が理想的なんだろうと思っているのですが、これまではそうでした。

I always stay only for a few days in the city when I travel. For example, 2days in Prague, 2 days in Budapest, 3 days in Vienna. I know it is better for me to stay longer in the same city to know the city deeply. My travel in the past had tendency to “just visited” and “just took pictures”.

そういう旅行は、天気によって都市の印象に大きな影響が出てしまうことに気づきます。雨が降れば、やはり街を歩いてもあまり楽しく無いんですよね。僕にとっては、プラハがそうだったかも知れません。期待が大きかったからなんでしょうが。

I found that the weather affects the impression of the city. In the case of rain, it is not nice for walking around. That is why, I do not have a good impression for Prague. I really expected too much for Prague.

写真は、プラハの天文時計。観光客の色とりどりの傘が何ともキレイです。本来ならば傘を持ってからくり時計を鑑賞しなくてはいけなかったかもしれませんが、雨だったので屋内から鑑賞してました。そのおかげで印象に残る写真が撮れました。

The picture below was taken in front of “Astronomical Clock, at Old Town Square of Prague”. A lot of umbrellas makes this picture memorable. Even though I should have watched in front of “Marionette Clock”, I watched this scenery from inside a building due to rain.

カランガマン島/Kalanggaman Island

２度ほど訪問しました。本当に素晴らしい無人島だと思います。

I visited Kalanngaman Island twice, I really like this deserted island.

この島はフィリピン・レイテ島からアクセスする方が早いようですが、私はセブ北部からマラパスクア島に行き、ダイビングの途中でカランガマン島に行きました。

If you want to go Kalanggaman Island only, you can access from Leyte Island, however, when I visited Kalanggaman Island, I approached from Malapascua Island which is famous for Scuba Diving, located in north of Cebu.

フィリピンには素敵な海、島沢山ありますが、間違いなくその中でも傑出した存在だと思います。

Even though there are a lot of wonderful islands in the Philippines, Kalanggaman Island is apparently one the most beautiful islands in the Philippines.

ブログの開始／Commencement of Blog

これまでの旅行で思い出に残っていることや、皆さんにお薦めしたいことなどなどを徒然なるままに書き留めていこうと思っています。

I would like to write down memories and things I want to recommends during travels in the past.

また、これから旅行する場合には、なるべく記憶が鮮明なうちに記録に残していこうと思います。記録に残すことで一つ一つの旅やイベントが自分にとって価値あるものになれば良いな、とも思っています。

I also will record experiences during travel in the future. I hope each event and each travel could be more valuable by recording details.
