オリンピックについては以前にも書きました。賛否両論があるなか、無観客という極めて異例の形で開催されていますが、選手に競技の機会を与えられていることは、素直に喜びたいと思います。今回、オリンピックの醜い金権主義などが表に出る形となったが、オリンピックが大きな魅力を持っていること、他では代替しづらい唯一無二のスポーツの祭典であることも痛感しました。
I have written about the Tokyo Olympics before. While there are controversies, the Olympics are being held in an extremely unusual way, without spectators. However I am honestly glad that the all athletes are being given the opportunity to compete/perform. Although the ugly money politics of the Olympics came to the fore this time, I was also keenly aware of the great appeal of the Olympics and the fact that it is only one sports festival that is difficult to substitute by any other sports events.
オリンピックは開催半ばであり、パラリンピックはまだ始まっていませんが、すでに存分に感動させていただいた。ソフトボール、柔道、アーチェリー男子団体、卓球混合ダブルス、水泳などなど書ききれません。数々の快挙、金メダル、本当におめでとうございます!!

一方、期待通りの結果が出せなかった選手もいます。バドミントンの桃田選手はその一人だと思います。世界ランキングが１位なんですから予選敗退は本当に残念で、本人も非常に悔しい気持ちだと思います。

世界一流の選手が集うオリンピックでは、全ての選手にチャンスがあり、ランキングほどの差は無いと思います。実のところは桃田選手にしか分かりませんが、マレーシアでの交通事故の際に負った右眼窩底骨折の影響が残っていたのかも知れません。

さて、前文が大変長くなりましたが、ここからが本題です。マスコミの記事は、結果が全てで、「勝てば官軍負ければ賊軍」といった取り上げ方があまりにも目立ちます。マスコミだけでなくSNSなどで負けた選手を徹底的に攻撃するのは日本だけではないようです。こういう心無い言動には強い怒りを覚えます。人に対して批判的な言動を取る場合には、言葉を選ばなければいけないでしょう。「裸の王様」などという表現が見られますが、情報源の秘匿という言い訳を用い、いつ、誰が言ったことかを明らかにしないことも腹立たしいです。

強打で攻める許の勢いにのまれ、第１ゲームで10連続失点。「流れを止められなくなってしまった」と唇を噛んだ。 2016年リオ五輪は、自身の違法賭博問題で無期限出場停止処分となり、出場できなかった。翌17年に処分が解け、世界ランク１位に立ち続けたが、何かとトラブルが付きまとった。
昨年１月はマレーシア遠征中の交通事故で右眼窩底骨折。現役引退が脳裏をかすめたという。 「バドミントン協会周辺には、『桃田は裸の王様だ』と言う声がある」 とは、放送関係者。 「桃田は今年１月にコロナ感染。本人を含めた日本代表がタイでの国際大会への出場辞退を余儀なくされた。感染したことは仕方ないが、コロナ禍での貴重な国際大会の機会を逃し、内心穏やかでない関係者もいました。今年３月の全英オープンでも、準々決勝敗退と精彩を欠く中、４月には所属先のNTT東日本の社員から契約社員へと雇用形態が変わり、事実上の『プロ契約』。お金稼ぎもあるのか、自身のYouTubeチャンネルに精を出したり、テレビのバラエティー番組にも多数出演したり……。五輪前に結果が出ない中、本来なら競技に集中するべきなのに、『周囲にきちんと注意できる人がいない』というわけです」
